How to Upload Resources - Video

Eventsential's resource links are a great way to link session handouts, evaluations, live polling, and much more to your event sessions, speakers, or exhibitors.

In this tutorial, we'll show you how to easily upload resources from a spreadsheet, using Eventsential's import utility.

To get started, we'll download an existing spreadsheet to use as a template.

From the main event details screen, click on the Utilities button in the top navigation.

There are 2 sections for file downloads. Use the first if you are going to use a spreadsheet program to manipulate your data.

Or, if you are going to use a script or other automated means to manage your data, use the second link.

We'll use the top link for our example.

In the spreadsheet, you'll find the Eventsential ID for the resource. If you're exporting your data from another system, you can leave this column empty.

Next is the resource name, followed by the URL.

The next two columns are used to associate the resource with the appropriate session, speaker, or exhibitor.

The Item ID column refers to Eventsential's ID for the session, speaker, or exhibitor. In our example, we'll be exporting resources from a external system, so we're going to leave that column empty, and use the Item Key column instead.

The Item Key column contains your system's identifier for the session, speaker, or exhibitor.

And then the Item Type column indicates what type of thing that the resource is being associated with. This value can either be Session, speaker, or exhibitor.

The External Key column is your system's identifier for the resource.

For our example, we'll leave the External Timestamp and Version fields empty. You can read more about these fields from the links on the utilities page.

Now you're ready to export your data from your source system. This might be done from a report or a query or database export, depending on what system you're using and what means they provide to export your data.

You may be able to save a .CSV file directly from your system; if not, you can paste the data into the template that you downloaded, which is what I'll do now.

Save your spreadsheet as a .CSV file.

Then, go back to the Utilities page, and select your file in the Upload Data section at the bottom of the page.

Then, click on the Upload File button.

Existing resources will be updated, and new resources will be created.
